California - the FOOD.

I LOVE food so I decided to document the things we ate and remember the good places.

Day 1 -

Lunch in Huntington Beach

We ate at Sancho's Tacos right on Pacific Coast Highway across from the beach. We were starving and it was the first place we saw. I had a chicken & fish taco and Nathan had a beef & fish taco. Although they were good, they didn't have any hot sauce (wtf) and didn't compare to my fav truck at home, El Camion.

Dinner in Newport Beach

We decided to venture into Newport to see what it had to offer and went for sushi at Buddha's Favorite. Nathan is a huge sushi fan and he's now turned me into one so I think we ate sushi at least three times on our trip.
Nathan got a sashimi salad that was delicious.

He always gets miso and I have one spoonful of it

This was my roll and I think I ordered because of the jalapeno but unfortunately, it wasn't as good as I was hoping.

This salad roll was really good and had a sweet/tangy sauce.

Next up Day 2 & 3 in Catalina:

Our hotel had wine & cheese in the courtyard each day which was fun treat.

We ate at Avalon Grill our first night which was pretty good but a little overpriced. Catalina is very small and there are few options. We yelped it and originally tried to go to a Japanese place which ended up being closed so we tried this. We split a Caesar and ahi tuna burger. The fries were good :)

We had fish & chips on the pier the second afternoon for dinner before we caught a ferry back. It was pretty good and the beer made it better.

Dana Point - Day 4

I think this was my favorite meal of all. We spent the night in Dana Point after our ferry and woke up to this sandwich from Coffee Importers. It had ham, peppers, onions on a delicious bagel with fresh fruit. This picture doesn't do it justice - it was huge! We could have shared but I said I was too hungry for that so we each got our own.

Santa Monica - Day 4 & 5

We stopped at a little place right on the water for a little edamame & sushi, both were very tasty.

Cha cha Chicken - best meal EVER! These are Jamaican jerk chicken enchiladas and the whole plate is bursting with flavor. If you are ever here, got to this little hut on the corner of Pico & Ocean.

After a late night of bowling and drinking, we stopped at a local cafe for another bagel sandwich which was almost as good as the one the day before, but not quite - it was lacking a little flavor.

Manhattan Beach - Day 5

We went to Izaka-ya by Katsu-ya which is an odd name, but soooo good. It's a very nice little place and the food was great. Definitely try it if you're ever there.

Best dessert - tempura green tea ice cream -melts in your mouth

I'm always a sucker for spicy green beans.

Back in Seattle at Chen's place - that whole plate for $6 and we had leftovers. It was good Chinese food and not too greasy.

  1. OMG! I haven't had breakfast yet and all of this looks so good! Especially the bagels and the tempura ice cream, yummy! I will just mentally enjoy the food you ate, less calories that way. :)
